Nursing Career Tips


Certified Nursing Assistants are also known as CNAs. CNAs have demanding, challenging and rewarding jobs. CNAs assist patients in basic human needs of healthcare profession. They usually help to bathe patients, feed them, change bed covers and help patients in toileting needs. CNAs can work in different environments like hospitals, long term care facilities, adult day care centers, assisted living centers, hospice agencies, home health agencies, medical agencies etc. CNAs work closely with patients and care for their physical and emotional needs. Certified Nursing Assistant can also perform some duties to assist nurses if authorized to do so.

Following career of certified nursing assistant, one can open boundless job opportunities. To become a qualified nursing assistant, you need to go through a complete training program. You can do this by joining some training center. You can now complete this training session with internet based training course. You need to pass an examination to get certificate. Once you have attained certificate, getting your desired job is not guaranteed yet. In most of states, candidates can directly apply with the state to become licensed or certified nurse in that state. Check with your state for its rules and regulations.

How to get a job as a CNA?

Passing exam to become a nursing assistant is one necessity to get job as CNA. After passing this exam candidates are required to make a convincing resume. You can use sample resumes available on internet by making little adjustments in it or you can also write your own resume by following specific instructions for resume writing shared below:

  • Start your resume with proper introduction. Give your name, contact details, home address and email address.
  • Give specified objective statement in next section. Don’t forget to include job title in resume objective you are applying for. You can use sample CNA resume objectives from internet to have an idea about writing more convincing resume objective.
  • Give your summary of qualifications in next section. Be definite, clear and true while providing information in all sections of resume. Making a draft list of your achievements will help you to give most relevant information in this section.
  • Give your employment details in this section. Mention organization name, job title and time for which you worked within that organization.
  • Provide a list of professional skills in this part of resume. Remember to include only skills that will be required to perform this job.
  • Academic background section will include information about your education. Provide all information in chronological order and don’t forget to mention name of institution, year of passing and course name.
  • Give references at the end.

All tips mentioned above are about format and information to be given in a resume. Besides these tips you need to keep some other important points in mind. These points include:

  • Don’t give extra personal information in writing your resume. Some people make a mistake to give information like nick name, favourite colour, favourite game, number of children, height, marital status etc. Such information will do nothing but will make your resume extra lengthy and irrelevant.
  • Don’t give your picture with resume.
  • Limit length of your resume to one to two pages and keep it most relevant.
  • Don’t use fancy fonts and extra large font size. Best recommended font styles for resumes and other business documents include “Times New Romans”, “Arial” and “Calibri”
  • Get your resume proofread by some person good at English to remove all errors and mistakes.

These tips will help you in making your resume stand out in crowd of resumes.
